This will be Joel’s second appearance at OMF and we are delighted to have him back! He was here on our maiden voyage and is the father of Clarabell our Megafauna I sculpture. He will be creating a new megafauna creature this year, but even we don’t know what it will be.
As a kid, Joel grew up moving from place to place with his woodworking father. The nature of his childhood helped shape his confidence as an artist knowing he could go anywhere and make something happen. Joel moved to NY from Colorado after high school, and discovered he had a propensity to move crowds with his creativity as a nightclub lighting technician. Joel began exploring carpentry and sculpting, and his first art collaboration: The Trojan Horse Project, led him to the his first Burning Man. Burning Man revealed a world full of new opportunity for Joel and his craft. He has continued to reach audiences through his amazing work including a 30 ft long covered wagon art car, an elaborate ghost ship, a 180 ft long battleship, and a month long residency with the Cardboard Institute of Technology at the Exploratorium in San Francisco at which he created a post-apocalyptic bomb shelter.
